Riding with someone new

My life just gets stranger and stranger. I guess my mom must be on stall rest or whatever people call it because she didn't come out again yesterday. I was so mixed up I'm just now getting to blog about it. I hope she remembers me. No one has come to see me today so far. Hopefully someone will give me my bucket dinner.

Anyway, I was in my stall yesterday just hanging around when a girl showed up and called me by my name. She started feeding me some hay that was on the ground outside my stall which was nice so I was happily visiting with her when Sparky's mom showed up. Turns out this person is a friend of Sparky's mom - she called her Emily - and the two of them were there to take care of me and Spark.

That was fine with me. They went off to get Sparky in the pasture and when they came back, they gave us both a hay snack and got to work on my stall. I was a little sassy about my hay, I have to admit. It's been kind of a strange couple of days for me and I was a little out of sorts. So I'm afraid I laid back my ears and nipped at Spark a couple of times. I couldn't help it. I was anxious. Emily told me to eat my own hay so I did but I was a little mad.

I got even madder when they took some of my hay away and gave it to Sparky! It wasn't fair! He's always eating my hay! I'm pretty polite about it usually but it's going too far when you take mine right out of my mouth just about and give it to him! He's just spoiled, that's what it is. Oh, I was mad! They didn't seem to care though. They don't know what it's like to be a horse and never get to eat what you want.

They groomed me then and I was a little fussy about my feet but Emily held me and told me to be a Good Girl and Sparky's mom made me behave and pick them up nicely. I was thinking that it was shaping up to be an awful day but then Emily took me to the Round Pen to have a little turnout.

That helped a lot. I wasn't really too frisky but I did need to move my legs and get to know her a little bit. She was nice to me and asked me to walk and trot some and she did a little bit of work moving me around. It was okay. She's not my mom but she seemed to understand me pretty well so that was good. I was a lot more relaxed when we finished up and then Sparky's mom saddled me up so I knew we were going riding. I was happy about that. I haven't gone riding for a few days, ever since the last time my mom rode me.

Sparky was saddled too and Emily got on him while Sparky's mom got on me. Spark didn't like that at all! Now it was his turn to be mad. You see, his mom hasn't ridden him for a while too and he wanted her to ride him. He couldn't see why she was on me while he had to carry someone he didn't even know. We both like Emily but I understand what he was feeling. It would be funny for me to carry someone else if my mom was riding another horse. It would make me feel like she didn't want to ride me.

Spark was being kind of bad about it all so after his mom rode me around the Flat Arena one time, she got on him and Emily got on me. So that's how I ended up riding with a new person. It was fun though and we had a good time. She walked me around a lot while we got used to each other and Spark and his mom had some fun trotting and cantering. Spark was really good once his mom got on him - you could tell that was what he'd wanted in the first place.

After a while, Emily asked me to go faster so I broke right into a nice canter for her! I guess she was a little surprised because she made me go back down to a trot. But after we trotted around for a while, she let me canter again and that was fun! We worked for a while in the Flat Arena but then it got boring so we went around the Poop Loop. Emily let me canter up the hill by the pasture which was really fun. I liked that. I love to run, as you know.

It ended up being a good day. I miss my mom and I hope she's okay and that she comes to see me soon. But at least I have other people who like me and can take care of me when she can't. I hope they come see me again today, at least to give me my bucket dinner.
