Fun day with Sparky's mom

Today was kind of a funny day. My mom didn't come to the barn at all! That's not like her - she comes to see me every single day. I can only think of one or two times when she didn't. So today when Sparky's mom came I thought sure my mom would be close behind. I nickered happily to see Spark's mom - I really like her. She's nice. But she's not my mom so it was kind of odd.

She got me out of my stall and gave me a hay snack and started cleaning my stall which is what my mom always does so I started to think maybe Mom wasn't coming. It was pretty confusing. But Sparky's mom talked to me a lot and from what I could gather (people talk strangely and it's often hard to understand what they're telling you) my mom had to see a sort of Shoe Man for people today. I knew she had something wrong with one of her feet. She's been wearing a funny shoe on it and limping. I sure hope she's okay and doesn't have to keep her foot in a bucket and get it wrapped. That's an awful pain.

Sparky's mom finished up my stall and then led me to the Round Pen. I was happy about that because I knew I'd get to run around. I got a little excited and pulled a little bit but she's just like my mom - she made that darn noise that means I'm being bad and made me walk right. Then I remembered my Manners.

I was really frisky. Mom had lunged me yesterday but I was a little lazy and didn't really stretch my legs. Plus I was excited because it wasn't my mom that was working me. That's always kind of fun. I don't really know why but it makes me want to show off a little bit. Sparky's mom picked up the lunge whip and asked me to trot and I started trotting fast and tossing my head and asking if I could run. She knew what I wanted so she flipped the whip and told me to go and that was all I needed! I ran and ran, kicking up my heels and having a good time. I was galloping around that Round Pen and having fun doing it. Sparky's mom just let me do it, only telling me, "Easy, Bella," once in a while when I got going so wildly that I was kicking the walls.

Finally, I dropped to a trot, then a walk, then she asked me to stop. She petted me then and told me I was a Good Girl. Then she asked me to turn and sent me around the other way. Well, I was still feeling pretty good so I broke into a big canter that way, too. I pretty much just ran until I was ready to stop running. It sure felt good. I haven't done that in a while and I need it sometimes. It was nice that Sparky's mom knew that.

I was pretty hot and sweaty by then so she let me cool out some and then took me for a walk. Walks are good to relax after a hard workout. By the time we got down to the hay barn, I was cooling out nicely and I realized she was taking me over to the water trough! So I got to play in the water trough, too. It felt good after all that running. I got a nice drink, and I dunked my head in and I blew bubbles and I played. Sparky's mom let me do whatever I wanted in it. And then she let me roll in the Little Rolling Arena!

We walked back to the barn and she told me what a Good Girl I was and how cute I am. She even washed me off just like Mom does. When we got back to my stall, I saw Sparky in it! That was funny. She must have put him in there after she first put me in the Round Pen. I don't mind. I love Sparky and I've let him go in my stall before. When he had colic that time, my mom took me out and let his mom put him in there so he'd be more comfy. I guess his mom put him in there today to have a hay snack. She took him out when we got there, and put me in it and gave me a little more hay snack so that was okay. We sniffed noses nicely and everything.

She knew how to give me my bucket dinner and gave me lots of pets and kisses and stuff. So I had a really good day. I got to run, and roll, and play in the water, and I got to see Sparky, and have my hay snack and everything. But I didn't get to see my mom so that's kind of sad. I do miss my mom when I don't see her. Maybe I'll see her tomorrow.
