Just this last March, I turned 5. My mom said that means I'm a big girl now and I have to pay attention and behave. I'm really trying. It's hard though. There are always exciting things going on where I live and I like to look at things and play with other horses and stuff. But I also like playing with Mom and it's kind of fun when she gets on my back and rides me. We can go lots of places together and see even more things. So I try to be good.
I live in California. That's a place with lots of barns and horses. My barn has about ten horses in it. They're all my friends. Some of them are special friends though. Sparky is my best friend. His mom and my mom smell a lot alike. I think they're related. Sparky lives in the pasture with a bunch of other horses but I have my own stall. I like it. I have my own water bucket and a paddock outside where I can take naps in the sunshine. I can visit with my neighbors too.
I like food. In the morning, the hay truck comes and it brings my breakfast. I like that. I don't think they give me as much as the other horses though. And all the other horses try to eat my food. That makes me mad. In the afternoon, I get alfalfa. That's really good. My mom gives me special food too that I eat out of a bucket. She puts carrots in it. Carrots are especially good. Also horse cookies.
Every day my mom comes to see me. She cleans my stall and sometimes she puts clean shavings in it. I like that. As soon as she puts clean shavings in, I pee on them. Then I roll. Mom tries to make me go outside to pee but I'd rather pee in the shavings. She doesn't really know what horses like to do sometimes.
After that, we usually do something fun. Yesterday she put my saddle on me and got on my back. We played in the arena with Sparky and his mom. Mom let me canter a whole bunch of times. Cantering is running. I don't know why she calls it cantering but when she says, "canter" I know I can run. That's my favorite thing to do.
I don't know what we'll do today. I bet it will be fun though. Maybe I'll get more cookies. I got lots of cookies yesterday because Mom said I was a Good Girl.
